Animated Goat from Burnt City

In ancient civilizations, mankind had been very much close to animals in his living environment, and this is probably the main reason for presence of animal motives on artifacts and other relics of that era.

Goat motif is among ones that are seen repeatedly on pieces of millenniums back. But there is an artifact on which goat motives are repeated intelligently, and have recorded one of the first animations of the world.

A goat leaps to reach the leaves of a tree nearby if you put five respective scenes on the body of this pottery cup with 8 cm diameter in a sequence like a zeotrope.

This 5000 years old vessel, together with a body skeleton of a man has been discovered during digging in a grave in Shahr-e Sukhteh (Burnt City).

This historical masterpiece is kept in the National Museum of Iran
